Tax Provisions & Audit Support
Your auditor's first question is where the number came from.
Once a company is audited, the tax provision stops being a year-end calculation and becomes a reporting obligation with a deadline attached to someone else's timetable. We prepare it on your calendar, in a form your auditor can review rather than rebuild.
This is specialist work. It sat with Wei on public technology companies at Deloitte, and in-house at Costco Wholesale Canada, where the provision he prepared was the one the auditors tested.
What we prepare
Under IFRS or US GAAP, quarterly or annually, to your reporting calendar.
- Current and deferred income tax provisions
- Rate reconciliation and effective tax rate analysis
- Deferred tax asset recognition and valuation allowances
- Uncertain tax positions and the supporting analysis
- Provision-to-return true-ups
- Note disclosure drafting
Working with your auditor
The provision is only finished when someone else has signed off on it.
- Working papers formatted to tie out on first review
- Responses to auditor queries during fieldwork
- Support through a first-year audit, where nothing exists yet
- Liaison with your external auditors directly, if you would rather we handled it
Where we are not your auditor
We prepare the provision; your external auditor audits it. This practice does not perform audit or review engagements, and that separation is exactly what makes the arrangement work — we can build the position and defend it without an independence problem.
